On June 27, 1925 an earthquake of magnitude 6.6 struck Montana about 10 miles north of Three Forks in Clarkson. It was followed by several aftershocks. People fled in panic into the streets. The image at the left shows the damage to Manhattan High School. The school was new in 1922 so this event was quite a shock to the community. Many years later everybody was still talking about this earthquake, wondering when and where the next one would hit, or picking up a new story about the last one.
