For over a year now, Manhattan Schools have been in the process of addressing an Office of Civil Rights (OCR) complaint for lack of access at our outdoor athletic facilities. The complaint identified concerns with access to the existing bleachers, facility amenities, and the track. The District is REQUIRED to remedy these conditions. Maintaining the facilities in their current state is NOT an option. This has prompted a serious look at our current football and track and field facilities by our school board, administration, coaches, staff, parents, students, and community stakeholders to help identify key challenges and opportunities. Architects have been hired to address this challenge and have developed renderings and details with 4 options of site designs. These design options are now being made public and can be seen in the links and image below.
The District is sharing information about the proposed athletic complex to explain why improvements are being considered—addressing ADA requirements, student safety, facility limitations, and long-term campus needs—and to better understand current challenges and opportunities. The District is seeking community input to determine whether there is support for this proposal, or a similar solution, and whether it should move forward with calling for a bond to fund the project at this time.
