Dear Manhattan Parents/Guardians and Community Members,
As we wrap up the 2025–2026 school year, we have much to celebrate.
The 2025–2026 school year was filled with accomplishments that strengthened our schools and supported student success. Through ongoing improvements in academics, student services, facilities, and school operations, we continued to build on our commitment to providing outstanding educational opportunities for all students. While we faced challenges along the way, those experiences brought opportunities for growth and helped strengthen our school community.
This spring, we celebrated many important student accomplishments. The Class of 2026 graduated on May 31, and students across the district were recognized for their academic achievement, scholarships, leadership, activities, and service. We are proud of all our students and the hard work they demonstrated throughout the year. Their success reflects the dedication of our teachers, support staff, families, and community partners who work together to help students thrive.
Throughout the year, district staff continued important work to strengthen teaching and learning. Educators collaborated on curriculum development, professional learning, literacy initiatives, intervention supports, and instructional planning designed to help all students succeed. We also continued efforts to improve student services, school climate, and educational opportunities across our schools.
The district made significant progress in facilities, maintenance, and operational planning. Investments in preventive maintenance, facility planning, safety practices, transportation planning, and operational systems help ensure that our schools remain safe, efficient, and welcoming learning environments for students and staff.
This year, we also recognize and celebrate the retirements of several outstanding employees whose combined service represents more than 215 years of dedication to Manhattan Public Schools. Retirees include Ann Heisler, Laurinda Henderson, Walt "Doc" Woolbaugh, Justin Kitto, Heather Nehring, Donna Cantalupo, Carol Stickley, and Pat Lynch. The District celebrated these individuals on June 3 and expressed gratitude for their tremendous contributions to our students, schools, and community. We wish each of them health, happiness, and fulfillment in retirement.
As we look forward to the 2026–2027 school year, Manhattan Public Schools is pleased to announce that Valli Ganser will be joining us as the new Middle School Principal and Darwin Stoner has already taken on the role of Head of Maintenance. Our elementary, middle, and high school teams will also be enhanced by several new educators and staff members whom we are eager to welcome to our district. Furthermore, the District is in the process of recruiting an Adult Education Program Coordinator, with the interview process set to begin in early August.
As we prepare for another productive year ahead, I want to share my sincere thanks with our students, families, staff, trustees, and the entire community for your ongoing partnership and support. The successes we celebrated this year were only possible because of your dedication to our schools and to one another.
We invite families to watch for important back-to-school information throughout the summer, including schedules, bus registration, and additional district updates. To stay informed, please regularly visit our District website, follow our Facebook page, and check your email for the latest announcements.
Wishing everyone a safe, restful, and enjoyable summer.
Sincerely,
Brian K. Ayers
Superintendent
