The out-of-district application for Manhattan's 2026-2027 school year opened on January 1, 2026.

Applications for out-of-district enrollment are currently being accepted for the following 2026-2027 grade levels:

1st Grade, 3rd Grade, 7th Grade, 9th Grade, 11th Grade and 12th Grade

Please note that ALL other grade levels are currently at capacity, and additional applications cannot be considered. 


Application Deadlines

  • Applications will be considered on a monthly basis February through May. Depending on space availability.
  • Application consideration will be done at the monthly School Board Meeting.
  • Complete applications received by 4pm of the last day of the month will be considered at the next month’s board meeting. 

Application Requirements to be considered complete:

The Manhattan Nonresident Enrollment Request Form and all required documents MUST be received prior to the above deadline in order to be considered for enrollment at Manhattan Public Schools.

NOTES: 

  • Incomplete applications will not be considered. 
  • Each application will be assigned a random and confidential non-identifying number to keep the student's name private. 
  • Not more than 30 days following the application deadline, the Superintendent will submit a list of applications to the Board of Trustees with recommendations.
  • Families who have complete applications will be notified the Friday prior to the Board Meeting via email notifying them of the recommendation for approval/disapproval of their child's application. Families of applicants who are recommended for wait list or disapproval may choose to discuss their child's application in a closed executive session of the board.
  • Nonresident students enrolled in the Manhattan School District must complete an application for an enrollment agreement each school year for the succeeding year. 
  • Acceptance is not guaranteed and decisions will be made in accordance with Policy 3141, Section 20-5-320, MCA, and the District Strategic Plan
  • The family of a nonresident child whose application for enrollment has been approved is responsible for transportation of the child to school or to an established bus stop within the district. The out-of-district child is not an eligible transportee as defined in Section 20-10-101, MCA but can use established bus stops.
